For Supergravity, my recommendation is, without any doubt, the new edition () of Gravity and Strings by Tomas Ortin. With more than pages, this book is an impressive piece of work on Gravity, Supergravity and related aspects of String Theory. All in all, this is an excellent book on applications of supersymmetry and supergravity in the context of unification. Students and researchers with some working knowledge of general relativity, quantum field theory and related mathematical concepts could benefit from this by: 5.

That is, the 5 kinds of theory described (E8*E8 for example) are now linked through "M-theory", so there is no real problem of unification anymore (aty least one could see how it comes together, but this issues are still controversial). Also, current theories sometimes use 11 dimensions, whereas in the book 10 dimensions seemed to be the standard/5(4).   Supergravity theory is Einstein's gravity extended with supersymmetry, meaning that it has at least one spin-3/2 particle in addition to a spin 2 particle, making a collection of fields that together have a long-range gravity force with a superpar.

Superstring theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modeling them Superstrings vibrations of tiny supersymmetric strings.

'Superstring theory' is a shorthand for supersymmetric string theory because unlike bosonic string theory, it is the version of string theory that accounts for both fermions and bosons and incorporates supersymmetry to.

In theoretical physics, supergravity (supergravity theory; SUGRA for short) is a modern field theory that combines the principles of supersymmetry and general relativity; in contrast to non-gravitational supersymmetric theories such as the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard ravity is the gauge theory of local supersymmetry.

In the second half of the book, complex geometry and N=1 and N=2 supergravity theories are covered. Classical solutions and a chapter on AdS/CFT complete the book. Superstrings and Other Things: A Guide to Physics takes readers on a fascinating journey through physics. Written in an accessible style, this comprehensive guide explains the basic concepts of motion, energy, and gravity, through to the latest theories about the structure of matter, the origin of the universe, and the beginning of time.

Supersymmetry is a symmetry of gauge invariance which connects bosons (particles with integer spin) with fermions (particles with half integer spin). The study of supersymmetry has led to the construction of supergravity and superstring theories which seem to bethe best hope for a complete unified theory of all physical interactions including : G.

Gibbons, S. Hawking, P. Townsend. Over the period sinceperturbative superstrings have been superseded by a new non-perturbative called M-theory which describes, amongst other things, supermembranes and superfivebranes, which subsumes string theories, and which has as its low-energy limit, eleven-dimensional supergravity.

Supergravity and Superstrings Article in Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences (1) - December with 10 Reads How we measure 'reads'Author: Murray Gell Mann. So given this new phase dimensional phase of string theory, and the various dualities between string theories, we're led to the very exciting prospect that there is only a single fundamental underlying theory -- M-theory.

The five superstring theories and D Supergravity can be thought of as classical limits. This book has been cited by the following publications.

the systematic exposition of the foundations of superstring theory presented in these volumes is just as relevant today as when first published. in Workshop on Unified String Theories, 29 July – 16 August, eds. The triumph of 20th century particle physics was the development of the Standard Model and the confirmation of many of its aspects.

Experiments determined the particle constituents of ordinary matter, and identified four forces that hold matter together and transform it from one form to another.Very good overview of the problem in physics between Relativity and Quantum mechanics, how string theory might be the solution, and how Superstrings has evolved as a possible contender for the Theory of Everything, tying all of physics together into one unified theory/5.Superstring theory is one of the most exciting and actively pursued branches of physics today.

The far-reaching claims made for this theory would, if correct, provide the much sought-after Theory of Everything, the unification of physics.

It would enable the fundamental building blocks of matter to be identified and amalgamated in a common description, with a unified theory of all the forces /5(2).
